Dirt Road Custom Seats
Not sure if he's still in business, but I and numerous others have had their FZ6R seats modified by Eddie of Dirt Road Custom Seats. Do a search on it. He will mod your seat to be about 50% more comfortable than stock, and give it a nice new cover as well.
Cool. I'm glad you're not offended, because I realized after I posted that I might come across as one of those "it can't/shouldn't be done" types who are so annoying.
Many of my old Japanese bikes had serious problems, and can probably be traced to the previous owners, as you allude to.
I...
Sorry, hope I didn't offend with any of my comments. I just know from my own experience that old bikes can be real money pits. My '78 CB550 had endless problems.
I would say that projects will almost never make you any money, once you consider all the man-hours and frustration and costs that go into them. You gotta do it just because you love working on bikes.
I do love reading threads on old bike restorations. Advrider has lots of them. This one...
Congrats, Jon. I'm sure a lot of the old timers on here remember your trials and tribulations in acquiring your FZ6R.
Glad you've gone to a bike that oozes character. Ducatisti seem to be very passionate about their bikes.
I used to own a '78 CB550--really, really great little bike that...
I'm not a car guy at all. Right now I drive a Hyundai Elantra base model. I only want a Miata for the convertible aspect of it. I probably wouldn't even drive it very fast!
All hail the King of Plastidip!!!
Sad to see you go, but happy that you are doing it for a good reason--family is always a good reason.
Check out Can-Am Spyders! They look like fun. Although they still don't protect you from stupid drivers.
Since we've gone full hijack on this thread, I also highly recommend getting a pinlock visor insert for your helmet. I've had a bunch of downright dangerous situations in the past due to visor fogging without one. An anti-fog insert does an amazing job of reducing fogging to pretty much zero...
Just a thought--I've always wondered if using a helmet chin curtain would cut down on the noise from turbulent air. I know that holding my hand where a chin curtain would go does in fact lower the noise considerably.
Might help in cooler weather. Would probably make fogging worse in...
I've got a set of these on my bike:
MSR Solid Moto Roost Deflectors - Motorcycle Superstore
They don't attach at the bar end, so are much simpler to install.
Not sure they will clear the windshield/fairing on our bike. I have them on my streetfightered FZ6R, so no clearance issues...
Did you replace your clutch springs? They may be too weak.
Are you using proper motorcycle oil? Automotive oil has additives that cause a clutch to slip.
Just wanted to make sure you've checked the basics.
