Exhaust and fairing question

Hello fz6r forums! First time on here and im liking it so far! I recently bought my first street bike and would love to make it sound more badass.

What are the negative effects to cutting the exhaust and cat off my 13 fz6r and weilding something on to mount a slip on? I really wanna change the sound of the bike for as little as possible...
hard time justifying buying a full exhaust for 1k ish + 300 for pc5 + 300 for dyno... when i got a sweet deal and only spent 3500.

ALSO

where is a good place to buy a single side fairing? It was dropped once or twice before i bought it and i would love to get a new fairing to make it look brand new.

Thanks so much!

Welcome and congrats on your new bike! We used to like in the Woodlands TX for several years. Careful on those Houston Highways!

The only negative to doing your exhaust is it get louder. Everything else is an advantage. You may like to read my post how I did it here: https://www.600cc.org/forum/threads/33454-Marthy-Tribute-Exhaust-Oh-yeah!

I have had my 2012 Raven for 6 months now and done every performance mod I know of except an R6 cam swap. I documented all of it in this forum, Do an advanced search on Sti491 with a cup of coffee and read away. Best performance combination I am aware of are: exhaust, PC5 with a good map (I use Marthy's AdvGear Rev B) block off plates, cut your airbox and go to all short velocity stacks, ear plugs, advance the timing, and -1 front sprocket.

Those mods make your bike scream like a zombie. It also improves low end grunt, top end, and first & second gear power wheelies are all the time if you don't lean forward a bit. You will keep up with any liter bike up to 60 MPH, as the Fizzer Has such good low end to begin with. These mods, combined with stuff like fender eliminator, lithium phosphate battery, flush turn signals reduce a TON of weight off the bike also, that stock cat weighs a lot compared to a shorty slip own. Weight reduction + more HP = FUN! And I still avg 40MPG, 48 if all highway at 70MPH.

Have fun, post up questions and check in. It's a great forum. I recommend googling the fairing and also E-bay.

Check out Bike Bandit (bikebandit.com) if you want brand new OEM fairings. They have the best price around and you can get an additional 5% discount if you are an AMA member.

If you want to replace the entire kit, you can sift through the yamaha category on Monster Fairing's website. you wont find anything by make, but if you look through the complete yamaha catalog, you should find a couple of kits in there. Also may be able to call to make it easier. Otherwise, Ebay wouldnt be a bad source for a panel or two.

(Pureluck711) You can cut open up your stock muffler and remove your cat. This can be done for nothing if you can weld it back up yourself. There are videos on this sight. I did mine and it's as loud as I want with no other mods. It will also let the bike run cooler.

Thank you sir! Ive already read a lot of your posts xD and will continue to read on.

I mostly want the bike to sound louder/cooler... im not in a need for performance upgrades atm, the "Fizzer" keeps me smiling as is.

not only do i want the exhaust for sound but also looks, the stock exhaust isnt sexy

I would definitley like to go down that road, mostly to save a lot of $$$...

BUT

Im worried there might be some negative effects? I know nothing about bikes or cars but what about the back pressure? or something else that i have no clue about?

Have you noticed any negatives?

(Pureluck711) There are no negatives to removing the cat. You can also remove your exhaust air injection to make your bike run cooler and stop the popping on closed throttle. There are different exhaust tips that fit on the stock muffler. It really changes the look of the bike.

Hey fellas glad to join the forum i just bought an 09 fizzer and I'm already looking to change the exhaust. Besides taking out the cat instead cant you just buy a slip on to improve sound? Is it worth it? And it seems there kinda hard to find. Any help on which slip on would be so appreciated. Thanks guys.

Unfortunately with the FZ6R you can’t just bolt a slip on and call it a day. The whole exhaust system is one piece. The cheapest thing you could do is open the cat and pull everything out and reweld it shut. Either that or cutting the cat off and putting a new pipe on which would then fit a slip on

I see. Well I really appreciate you answering back. If you could bear with me here I have noticed it's all one piece. Have you done anything to your exhaust like remove the cat? Ive seen people drill holes in the exhaust box and personally it sounds shitty so fuck that, I dont want it super loud but I'd like for them to hear me coming ya know. I want more quality sound if you will.

You may also be able to find a header pipe from an YZF R6 that fits, and fit a slip on to that... I believe that is another method.. You may find some on You Tube who have attempted that.
