Steep hill fuel starvation / fun ride in CNY

I snuck (sneaked?) out for a lunch time ride and climbed a hill I've never climbed before. While fairly short, this sucker was steep. I just measured it using the MapMyRide web site and confirmed it's up to an 15% grade in places.

Maybe half way up this grade my 2009 FZ6R had a couple of major hiccups. My 1st thought was either a tranny problem or the chain jumped a tooth somehow.

The 1st hiccup was a very sudden bog, but fairly mechancal feeling. I let off the throttle and the bike recovered quickly. I then rolled on the throttle again (gently) and it did it a second time... This was probably about 15-20 miles into a 33 mile ride. After that second one the ran flawlessly. I of course was paranoid and rode (extra) cautiously the rest of the way but everything seemed normal.

Can anyone say they've experienced anything like this?

Thanks!

Oh, for anyone in Central New York, this is the ride. I HIGHLY recommend it!
