Safety Tether Switch

I'd like to take my bike to an open drag day at the strip, just to see how it (and I) do. The problem is they mandate a tether switch. Does anyone here know if the kill switch circuit is normally open or normally closed? I will try and track down a schematic also.

Edit: So from what I've seen from the starting circuit, it looks like the kill switch is normally closed. This means that I can get any normally closed tether and wire it in? Can anyone verify?

I could do that, seems like running a lot more wiring than just splicing into the kill switch though. I wish I had a diagram for this bike. Searching outside of the forums didn't really give me anything.

if the kill switch is normally closed, you could just wire the tether right inline with either side of the wires going to the switch. With the plug in, it would complete the circuit, when the plug was pulled, it would break the circuit.

Best bet is talk with other riders there... first time I've heard of this requirement on this forum.

Yeah, finding info is hard without paying Yamaha their $100 for the service manual.. .can sometimes find them on ebay or other member will occasionally sell them.

I installed the Motion Pro tether kill switches on both of my atv's.I took the kill switch apart so the junction is inside the housing, soldered the joint (there's alot of vibrations in handlebars).Its normally closed, tape the crap out of it or you might get one heck of a suprise when you touch the metal bars during rain.I did a poor job taping off my joint on my banshee the first time I installed one of these and it bit the crap out of me when I was stuck in a mudhole pushing on the bars one night.

My local drag strip requires one as well... if your bike runs sub 10 seconds. Above that they don't, so I haven't had to worry about that since that's pretty darn fast. But I've wondered how to go about doing this as well, just in case I ever get to a point where I need one. I'll have to look into the Motion Pro one. And I'd recommend using something [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-23-Electrical-Width-Length/dp/B000V4P58M"]like this[/ame] to wrap the connection after you splice it in.
