So... I got a new tire for the front of the bike Saturday... YAY!!!
On my way home I noticed my Aztek had a rubbing noise coming from the front, though, hmm, guess it's time for a new wheel bearing (notorious for going through them every year or two)... So I txt'd the Mrs. and let her know it's probably about time. She replies, "Is that that sound that sound like rocks flinging?" odd, but I replied, no, that's the constant whine coming from the front....
Well, about 200 yards from home and I hear "rocks flinging"... then right when i go to pull into my drive, a very loud bang, followed by a bang bang bang.... I slowed way down and pulled into my drive....
Well, good new is I don't need a new wheel bearing, it's fine... but someone (see below *) didn't tighten the front passenger side Caliper bolt and the caliper was hanging on by one bolt... it just happened to move off the rotor and wipe out all the wheel weights (the rocks thing
)... and as I tore it apart, I found a few weights in the calipers (the whining noise)....
Do you know how hard it is to find a caliper mounting bolt from a parts store??? The first set they gave me were the guide pins... I said, nope, caliper's fine, I need the one that mounts it to the car.... no luck yet, gonna have to check with dealer...
*and uhm, when I install it again, make sure I remember to put locktite on them this time (usually at the top of my list when installing parts)
