So I've been reading the forums for a while, taking to various bike riders and searching the internet for information much like all of you have, and I'm curious; does the ratio of cost vs performance really make sense?
Let me put it this way:
Two Bros $850
K&N $60
PCV $300
Total = $1210 (without tax or labor - assuming we DIY)
From what I've read and heard the hp improvement is anywhere from 0 (thats what the mech at the shop I go to says) to 15 (I think somewhere on the forums someone even said higher). So lets say we do REALLY well with the overall improvement and get a 15hp boost - that's at a cost of $80/hp. Is that really worth it? I get that the exhaust will sound better and am all for spending a LOT of money on cosmetics (Pazzo's, Galfers, FE and other stuff is just waiting to go on mine - this weekend I hope), but I'm also a performance nut and really want to get as much as I can out of the bike. When I used to mod up cars, putting a set of headers and dual exhaust really made a difference, as did aftermarket air filters, etc - but what I'm getting from quite a few people that ride in the SoCal area is (the mech at the shop included) is that after market exhaust and air mods just make noise and really don't help all that much. About 50% said that the PCV is all you really need and if you want the sound - mod the existing exhaust.
So how about it? What do you folks who have done all this stuff think? Did your bike get quicker? Did it go faster? Or does it just sound cooler? (the mech at the shop says if you want the bike to go quicker - gear it down, go faster - gear it up - he's an interesting character).
Any replies are welcome
