The price of the FZ9 is very close to what my 2012 FZ6R cost new last September. I love the FZ6R and ride it lots--commuting, errands, day trips, but am thinking that this bike would be an easy upgrade if I trade in the existing bike and use my Yamaha financing.
My dealer says he's expecting the FZ9 to be a big seller given the price, technology, and finish.
My only concern is that it's a lot more bike than what I'm riding. They're saying it puts out about 115 horsepower--that's about 50 more ponies than what I've got, and I tend to ride safely and cautiously. Of course, in the past five years I've gone from a Vespa, to a 250 ninja, to an FZ6R. Any opinions as to whether this is too big an incremental jump from an FZ6R? Would it make more sense to look at one of the outgoing FZ8s? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
It includes a drive mode selector (discussion here), so maybe switching to one of the lower performance modes ("B" it looks like) would tone things down a bit for you.Any opinions as to whether this is too big an incremental jump from an FZ6R? Agreed, throw a fairing on it and I found my next bike.I'd love to see a faired or partially-faired version of it. So far just seen the Naked one. That would be an easy choice for an upgrade.
I would think they'd do a bit more than just "throw a fairing on it." Just as the FZ1 and FZ8 share the same frame and many other components but both look good, you could build a faired (or partially faired) bike on the FZ-09 frame with no changes to the major components. Just like they do with the XJ6 variants of our bike in Europe: Available either way, with tweaks to make the bike flow nicely either way, but no real differences under the skin. I think that's a much more economical way for Yamaha to do it than building multiple models with significant differences in the major components. Could even do an FZ1 type arrangement where the lower fairing is an option. With a fairing I think it would look like a <2012 Ninja 650 and it will loose all of it's appeal. The banana seat is not going to flow well with fairings, IMO.
