This post is a heads-up for those who don't do regular chain inspections...
I never had an issue w/ chain slack on my fz6r. The chain was checked every 4000 miles during oil changes and was adjusted 3 times in 15,000 miles.
I ride the gixxer harder. It had less than 3000 miles and the chain was checked during the first service at 600 miles when I first checked it.
I only checked it because I heard something click when I was backing my bike out of the garage. The specs call for a slack rate of 0.8-1.2 inches. Mine measured almost 2.5 inches. I was really lucky that it didn't fall off and injure/kill me and/or damage the bike during a ride.

Take care.
