Connecting gps to bike

Hi All,

I want to first start off by saying I am a new rider (about 6 weeks in) and if you haven't guessed already my first bike is a 09 fz6r and I LOVE it! Also, this forum has been VERY helpful and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed.

Now to my question. I want to mount a gps to my bike and I am trying to get ideas on how to hook power to it. I tired to search the forum for a similar question but had no luck. I am sure there are many ways of doing this, so the more ideas the better. Also, a description/pics on how you did the hook up would be helpful as well (hopefully not asking too much).

Hi and welcome!

I have yet to install power but what I would do is go to a marine/boat place and buy a 12v accessory plug. I figured I would install mine on the black inner fairing to the left of the gauge cluster in front of the handle bar.

The marine version is water proof.

You're not alone... the search works only on four or more characters... but you can do quoted searches and it works...

Best bet is to buy a 12vdc to usb power adapter, you can go cheap if you're good with soldering components (or has a friend who can). You can read in these thread how we did power points from the battery and a relay, so it's only on when the ignition is on.

I just noticed you are in VA! I am in Centreville, so not too far from you. You have nice twisties out there in Bluemont? I went riding with my buddy last Saturday and he took me up, over, and around Culpeper and that was a lot of fun. Anyone else you ride with from the forum?

Yeah, there's a couple of us in the NOVA/MD/PA area. If you've never been up this way, you can check out 601 and 606, short roads, but nice.
