Hard to tell, but it didn't look like he was moving to fast. Think he just forgot to f'n turn or just took it too wide and lost it in the dirt. Either way, what a dumb ass. At least now it's immortalized on the web!
Pretty common mistake up there. The straightaway leading to the curve is blind. If you haven't done your homework and scouted the thing very slowly you're going to come up on the curve going too fast, hit the brakes, and even if you manage to slow yourself sufficiently before needing to turn, you end up so off-balance that you lose it anyway.
The difference between a squid and not (and this is true whether we're talking about motorcycles, skiing a blind gully, kayaking a Class IV rapid, or climbing a difficult face), is that the non-squids ALWAYS scout their route. Even if the "route" is a track. The squids might look at a map and figure they know what to do.
I agree he may not have scouted but from where the video starts it doesn't appear that he made an attempt to turn. Not sure if he just went way wide and couldn't correct. At least he was geared up.
