Rode 150 km non stop last Sunday... Ain't gunna lie, my *** was pretty sore after that haha. Was like that when I first got my other bike though... Just gunna have to ride it more to develop iron butt!

Thanks for the tips! Pretty sure mine's on the default #3 setting so could perhaps soften it up a bit as I'm only 80 kg. Bike is still on break in period though so not pushing it hard enough to really notice the difference :-)

Oh, I don't doubt there are MUCH quicker ways of breaking in an engine than having to ride 1,000-1,600 km. Part of my concern is potentially voiding the 2 yr manufacturer's warranty. I'd hate something to go wrong and have Yamaha say "Well you didn't follow the owner's manual so you're not covered."

You're right! Just read it again and noticed the word PROLONGED. Looking forward to my first ride even more now :-)

I see that the owners manual recommends keeping the bike < 5,500 RPM for the first 1,000 km and < 6,500 RPM for the next 600 km after that. Seems like a tough ask! Just wondering how well other behaved themselves? :)

I test rode the 2013 in Yam Team Blue and I have to say it looks gorgeous in person. Waaay better than the pictures. But I got a deal I couldn't refuse on a red/copper 2011 :-)

Thanks! Only a few more days to wait now :-) I don't actually mind a hard seat but will see how I feel after 400 odd km's. The Mrs will definitely be wanting a soft seat though. Looking forward to doing a few tours together. And yep, got it at an amazing price. Like 2/3 of the price of a brand...

UPDATE: I bought one yesterday!!!! Found a brand new 2011 model in the reddy-orange/black at a great price. Just have to wait a week for delivery now... I think it's gunna be the longest 7 days of my life lol

Went and saw 2011 model. Looked great in black but the dealer wouldn't lower price any further so decided against it. Have not gone with the 2013 as the 2014 models are going to be in in a few weeks for the same price so I'm thinking I could get a '14 model or a '13 model at a reduced price :)...

lol yeah, I know there are a tonne of other factors but I still think NZ prices are pretty extreme. As others have said, I could probably import from the States for less...

Thanks, it certainly gets a lot of attention. I don't think I could ever bring myself to sell it! Struggles 2 up though so I'm hoping that's where a FZ6R will come in handy (among other things of course!)

Exactly. I hit the dealer up about that and reminded them that the exchange rate hasn't been 2:1 for about 10 years now...
