I've always believed, and been loud when required, that a fast bike is faster than a fast car. Not necessarily true in every scenario, but a good rule of thumb in my opinion. Power-to-weight ratio simply doesn't lie.

Even our beloved 6R, tuned down as it is, is faster 0 to 60 than most cars you're likely to meet. What if it's a SuperBike Vs. a SuperCar?

Really stupid-fast is just that. Really, really fast. Fortunately, we're not likely to race an F1 car from a stoplight anytime soon!

On a related note: I do not race. Period. Nor do I condone such on open, public roads. I just love the way I pull away from everything else on the road without even trying.

F1 is light years ahead of anything carlike.

Just coz an F1 car can beat all, it seems to give license for any schmuck in a tuned shitbox to say "cars are faster than bikes", followed by "I can hear mommy calling, gotta go" ;) .

Didn't you know that the bolt-on big muffler makes them go quicker? LOL. What I loved to see is that the closest thing to an F1, that was road-legal, was simply owned by the bike. On wet tarmac! And on a Beemer!

This point is debatable, very debatable, but there are even faster bikes they could have chosen.

Oh the power between our legs! (Pun is unintended but recognized :))

FYI to anyone who didn't see the full f1top gear Australia race (last link in OP).

It was a stock repsol cbr1000rr, and when you watched the full view, you can see Casey pull out the way, and wave the V8 through...

Fun to watch a second of it but was easy to see it was rigged...

Well, the latest hybrid super cars appear to be pulling sub-10s 1/4 mile times. We need a 9sec superbike!

The thing to remember is the comparison between a street bike and a street car vs. race bike vs a race car. The gap in performance between a stock R1 and the M1 MotoGP bike, while large, is a fraction of the gap between a Ferrari F1 car and even a Ferrari F430 street car. (Let alone something "sporty" like my wife's 350z. It's fun and quick. But not even close to being in the same league.)When you start pushing both platforms to the limits, there's no chance any bike will ever be as fast an F1 car. There's just not enough rubber on the road. Some tracks MotoGP bikes are faster down the straight but as much as 15 seconds slower over the lap than the cars. They have 4 times as much rubber on the ground with one front tire than a bike does. Multiply that by all four on the ground, you can't really expect the bike to try and corner like the car. Bikes have no hope.

But on the street, cars aren't designed to use all the rubber they have on the ground for performance, but bikes are. That's the big difference.

RE : F1 v V8Supercar v stock CBR at Eastern Creek :
The V8Supercars only started beating Alex Criville's 500 era Eastern Creek laptime from 2012 (~1:30). I think Alex did the 500 time in '89. I'm guessing Casey had the Dunlop alphas on the stock Honda which are available from the tyre shop at EC for the FX series.

FZ6R is not a superbike...
It's not even super sports...

It's a sports bike...

Source for the V8 being let through... watching it on tv and seeing casey look over his shoulder and wave the V8 through for the overtake.

I disagree. Any true, street-legal sports car is indeed designed to make the best of the traction it's got. It's also designed to put all the torque it can onto whatever drive wheels it is using, to make the car go as quick as possible.

Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, would argue with you mightily if you say they are not designed to put the power to the rubber.

What you're speaking of is a comparison between the fastest bikes on the planet and the fastest cars there are. There simply isn't anything that corners as quick as a Formula racer. Period. That is what they are built for.

Outside of that? The true sports cars will take a powerful bike in a corner. Then the bike is going to leave them in the dust on the straight.

Real world? Chances are, there is no car you're going to meet at the stoplight, that is going to take you, regardless of the road.

My opinion. :)
