Obviously nothing super crazy with the XJ6 seat. You can see it's just the latch moved backwards and you have to take out the little tray that adjusts the stock seat height.

Sorry about the pictures being a little cluttered up with wires. I've got a few extra electronics in there.

That's awesome, thank you very much...... I still haven't got my FZ1 seat, and finding a reasonably priced used XJ6 seat is proving difficult...... I can get custom covers for either at reasonable cost...... I forsee I'll be biting the bullet on the XJ6 seat eventually, lol........

Additional question on the Top Sellerie seat...... was this a complete seat, including pan or just the cover....... I know they make complete seats for some bikes. Might be a better option than me buying a used XJ6 seat plus custom cover..... just thinking out loud (again!).

It was a complete seat that came ready to pop right on the bike. You can save a little bit of money if you provide them an existing XJ6 seat for them to re-do if you have one, but the difference isn't worth trying to hunt down an original XJ6 seat to give them.

It's more than just a cover too. Like mine I got the gel cushioning and the increased seat height options. I think there's a heated seat option they offer too.

I dug into Top Sellerie's site earlier today..... full seat is way too expensive. Other option is to send them my XJ6 seat (that doesn't exiast yet) and pay $300 for a cover.... that's all just the same money to me..... best I can do is get a used XJ6 seat, just found another in France for $240, then I put a custom cover from another vendor for approx. $150 (from Etsy of all places, vendors are in Poland).... that may work for me, as I can modify foam to make it a comfortable seat. I've modded seats before.... I have an FZ1 seat at a buddy's place in NY and he will deliver to me hopefully within a week or two. Then the fun begins..... can get custom covers for it too (and mod the foam if necessary).

Anyway, I appreciate all your expeience with it...... also keeping an eye out for a longer cable. I can move the existing latch, yes?? That is, don't need an XJ6 latch?

Yeah, I bought my full seat with the custom options back in 2022 for $326 shipped. I just rebuilt the exact same seat on the site and it came out to $602 shipped. What a difference four years makes I guess.

Aside from like a little extra tab on the main bracket, the XJ6 latch that I used looks basically identical to the FZ6R one. So I don't see why just moving the stock seat latch wouldn't work. I think I primarily bought the XJ6 latch assembly for the purpose of getting the longer cable that comes with it.

I am still waiting for my FZ1 seat to try it...... my buddy in NY hasn't delivered it to me yet, and I may just have to go get it myself, lol..... no hurry really but I'm itching to see if it will work.

The FZ1 seat has been retrieved. It is wider more square at the back, fills the gap, and the contour at the tank isn't perfect, but OK. The kicker is, the pan is too much different, I'd have to do a lot of surgery to make it work. Mulling that over because I don't mind cutting up the pan..... got looking at the FZ6R pan again, and after riding it some more, it just needs to be flattened a bit and made wider (the pan), then new foam and cover (custom by me). I will spend a bit more time thinking about this before I get an XJ6 Diversion seat.... cheapest used seat now is $225 from France, and I would want a new cover which is $160 from Poland.

Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier....... swap foam! So I removed the covers and foam from the plastic pans...... the FZ1 foam of course is bigger and looks like it will accomplish what I want. Wider at the back for better support. So, have to trim it a bit in the center to get it to sit down in the FZ6R pan, then a couple of tweaks might be necessary to get the edges to sit down and fill in a gap or two in the front (tank). The FZ1 foam overhangs at the rear corners where I want it to. Contour of back edge is differen, but enough foam there to tweak and possibly fill in the gap where the stock sea meets the rear seat. Intending to re-use the FZ1 cover for now, can always get a custom one later (for appearance). I'll post up my progress....
