How the heck do you hold this in place?

When I got my bike (it was used) it only three screws holding the windshield in place but it did have a double bubble windshield. After riding the bike for 8,000 miles I decided to put a Puig Touring windscreen on. I ordered all new plastic screws and the rubber nut mounting pieces as well.

I pushed the rubber nuts with the broken screws stuck in them through the fairing so I could install the new rubber nut pieces. When I try to tighten the screws into the rubber nut pieces they just spin with the screws.

I can't see how to get behind the nuts to hold unto the backside to hold the nut in place. For something that should be so easy it's been a frustrating morning.

Any ideas? I'm feeling pretty lame not being able to figure this out.

don't feel bad... those grommets are a pita...

soap and water to seat them from the front, once in, let it dry then try again. They are not meant to be super tight, but shouldn't back out

Ended up using some electrical tape to help hold the grommets in place just enough to get the screws going then pulled the tape out.
