help remove tank black side panels

I need to paint my gas tank. Anyone know how to get the black side piece off?

According to the parts diagram on Bikebandit.com, it looks like they are just taped onto the tank.

yeah thats what I thought it was, best to get it off from the bottom side without breaking it and with wd40
