So I finally went to the Dr a few weeks ago to address my carpal tunnel and back/neck issues. Dr sent me for back x-rays which came up normal (unless your back is twisted all to hell most x-rays are normal) so I have to follow up with an orthopedic Dr to get a MRI to see if the discs are herniated (doesn't show up on x-ray). Went to orthopedic Dr the other day to address my carpal tunnel and back and have a full EMG scheduled in less than 2 weeks followed immediately with an ortho appointment to schedule surgery. Dr I saw didn't specialize in backs so after EMG I need to follow up with another Dr from his office. The carpal tunnel surgery will finally allow me to ride like I want to. I have hardly ridden since getting my bike, because of the severe wrist pain and numbness. Back/neck pain just makes working out and other activities painful and difficult and since quitting smoking and gaining some weight I'd like to start working out like I did before my back pain took over. I was doing P90X and fighting through my back pain for quite some time. Hoping to schedule the carpal tunnel surgery soon after the appointment and address my back problems. Was going to a chiropractor for a while which made it more bearable, but didn't make the problem go away. May go back to the chiropractor in the meantime since it did help somewhat. Should be on here more often once I have surgery since I will be out of work for 6-8 weeks (too much physical work to go back early).

Hey Scott glad you are getting things resolved. Didnt know you were unable to ride. My back is horrible too, main reason i wont get a "super sport' lay on the tank type bike. It just periodically goes out every year or two and then its two weeks of pain. When i got the FZ6R, which seemed so comfy in the showroom, my wrists were killing me by the time i finished my 30 minute ride back to my house. I went back the next week and had the risers put on that made a huge diference but my hand will still get sore or numb after a while. Hope it all goes well and keep us updated.
Thanks! Back doesn't keep me from riding. Not being able to feel my hands makes braking and shifting is hard. LOL! I just want to find out what I need to do to make my back feel better. Only turning 39 and have an almost 10 year old boy and enjoy helping him with football and other physical activities which are difficult when my back is bothering me. Just let things go too long. I have a good hand surgeon and shouldn't be down long.

Thanks, Dr said surgery is inevitable. Emg test is because I have back/neck problems which are pinching nerves as well. Chiropractic care definitely helped so I may start again unless they find that I need to do something else.

I feel for ya, I have neck and back problems as well. Though my back doesn't bother me when riding my neck damage has a constant side effect of loss of fine motor control in my right had, I cannot two finger break or break and blip at the same time. Good luck on any procedure you're going to have, cervical spine is a 50/50/50 thing. My neck problem is too risky to work on so I'm leaving it alone for now.

Back pain is something else.... I got lower back and neck pain from being rear end while riding... Lucky I was all muscular but it sucks and it's taking forever to heal up...

I feel your pain, no really I do. LOL! I f'd up my discs lifting a tree we cut down. I was the only one that went on 3. Neck has bothered me a while too, not sure what I did to it.

As silly as this sounds, I'm starting MA for health reasons.When I was doing research on my class, I noticed they also offer alot of healing exercises compared to what we normally see in sports or MA.Sometime when your bored, look into Dr Yang Jwing Mings martial arts background, then google his name along with back pain, arthritis or carpel tunnel.Its not just pain releif like accupuncture, he also teaches healing exercises, theraputic massage etc.You can probably find alot of value in one of his books or instructional dvds.
Scott, are they absolutely sure it's carpal tunnel, and have they done a nerve conduction test cpl times to ensure this?
I was going through hand numbness for almost a year, they thought it was carpal tunnel, however it turned out to be a B-12 deficiency - had to give myself shots for a while to cure, but did not need surgery.
If you don't know if they did blood tests for B12 (it's not a normal screen, has to be requested), get it done ASAP. good luck!
Just had blood work done a few weeks back. Has-been going on for 10-11 years now, just got much worse. Having an emg done on 20th to check for nerve damage. Wish I could get a shot and be done with this bs.

Well it's official. I was at my orthopedic surgeons today for my follow up after my EMG tests and I need surgery for both hands. Scheduled my left hand surgery for next Friday and right hand to follow about 2 weeks later if all goes well. Gonna be ready to ride by spring. :wav:
Thanks, I've dealt with it for 10 years and it became overwhelming to do everyday tasks. This last riding year I only rode to work like 4 times, because the 20 mile commute was too painful and I worried about safety since I couldn't feel my hands and fingers. That was honestly the final straw. I'm just hoping for a quick turnaround since this is going to put a burden on my family.Good luck with your surgeries! Remember, positive thoughts heal healing
