What should be the idling engine temperature after a 30 minute city riding.

I got home last night and was idling at 207F.

Sounds about right. I believe that it is around 212°F that the fan kicks on. The manual states that 104-242 °F is OK. 243-283 °F, the temperature warning light will come on and you should allow it to idle to cool it down. Anything over 284 °F you are supposed to shut down the engine, and allow it to cool. Hope that helps.

You are good. If its too high, it will say so Just wait till summer, that fan will be working hard in city driving.

For some strange reason I though 189 was the max temperature.

Well, 289° would be too high, and that could be easily forgotten that it is a 2 in front and not a 1.

I'm normally in the 228-230 range in the summer around town.

That sucker gets HOT in the desert in summer, heh, but yeah, just follow the guidelines in yer manual. I notice in 60 degree weather I'm usually running around 180 or so.

However, I've noticed after some hard riding tonight, even though the indicator is only at 207, the oil casing, the frame, even the fairing (particularly the right fairing), is extremely hot...

Is this typical?

Yes, Normal.. Not sure if you have seen my vid's but I ride hard, and my temp gets pretty high.. Like you, my frame and fairing get's pretty hot....

Last summer my bike tended to stay on the warmer side, so last week I flushed the coolant and replaced with pure water and Water-Wetter after hearing how well the stuff works. So I guess I will be seeing for myself here soon.

At that temp you would definately not be comfortable riding it.

Here also. During summer I think I am usually around 212-230s, usually the higher end of it in city stop/go driving. On highways I think I am around 207-212. Right now with the temp in the 60-70 range I am around 176-202.
