Any gardners or green thumbs out there?

So im starting this thread seeking some advice ideas or tips, i have 4 hops plants growing in buckets, my landlord is a PITA about me setting up anything so im kind of limited on how i can let them grow. The plan was to buy some 10 foot tall heavy duty tomato cages, but the local store wont stock them till mid april and my hops are growing about 2 feet per day so i need somthing ASAP. My next thought was to build a trellis out of PVC but this seems anoying to have to glue all those damn fittings anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Ill snap a pic of what ive got going on when i get home.

Anyone else growing anything ? I had tomatos and peppers but again my landlord was difficult about water SMH, he wanted the crops but didnt like the water being used.... i also had a lemon tree but i forgot to water it and left for 4 days and it died on me just this week... spring is here and thr damn thing survived winter just to die in spring!! ( the next plan is to plant a paw paw tree)

I have a Grapefruit and Orange tree... The Orange tree is struggling, but the Grapefruit tree is doing great. In addition to fertilizing the tree every 6-9 weeks, I also treat them with Chelated Iron (liquid form) every 8 to 10 weeks, but never both at the same time. I leave a couple of weeks in between fertilizer and Chelated Iron.

My lemon tree died a couple of years ago. There was a cold snap that got it, but the cold didn't seem affect the Orange or Grapefruit trees. No idea why, though...

I'm thinking about putting a Kumquat tree in where the lemon tree was...

I have my watering system on a timer.

We sometimes use thin rope and tie it to a fixed point somewhere and let the plant crawl up the rope/string. Not sure how big Hops get but we used it on a crawling vegetable called "bitter melon" before.

The are inavsive, to give you an idea they are cureentky growing at 8-12 inches a day on a sunny day, and that woukd be an easy sokution but my landlord is afraid the county wouldnt like that. Hes all uptight about the county because he got in trouble with them about a yesr ago.

I think for noe ill have to trim them back or somthing,because the pvc idea is more expensive than i thought.

Thanks blue, yeah here in virginia you have to bring citrus insids for half the year.... =/ so the lemon just didnt work out, and i really like lemons. Maybe when i get my own house ill have better luck. As for the paw paw tree they are native and not to tricky to grow. Right now im just stumpped on what to do abiut the hops im trying ro be creative ill snap a pic in the morning so you all can see whats going on. If i could build a tee pee for them to crawl up that would be great so maybe i need to learn some knots lol i have plenty of bamboo.

If you are looking for an inexpensive solution for your hops, try utilizing wire hangers. I imagine you could use them with the bamboo to create some type of trellis or basket for the hops to climb on. I always have extra wire hangers from my dry cleaning. I use them for all sorts of little projects around my home.

Btw here ls my current set up, the green buckets are the hops they all have small tomato cages but id like them to grow up a bit so i may have to get creativd with the bamboo or just be patient and deal wirh them until the big cages are in stock. The red bucket is my now dead lemon tree, i put it outside to get it out of the way. The cones mark off my "runway" so no one blocks the garage door on that side ( landlord rents the lot out to the transmission shop to park employee vehicles)

My buddy and i build a tee pee like A framw out of some bamboo and chicken wire....took us 4 hours so we onmy built 1 but i suppose it will do for now, ill snap a picture when i get home.
