Here are pics of both sides of mine, I guess as long as the X bracket meets the end of the exhaust can on both sides you should be good, It looks like there is a gap but the X bracket is snug and flush on the inside with the can.

+1 Maybe pull it apart and try again. It's a tricky spot to work on being under the bike and all. Maybe get someone to help you out and just work slow to make sure she sits flush. Did you make sure to tighten everything in the order it states on the instructions and my write up?
